Persephone Books
I found this website recently for a bookshop in London. After speaking with Miki at the shop, I decided I wanted to tell you about it too.
Persephone Books are written by women, about women, for women. They are books that have been published years ago and have gone out of print. Most are fiction, but there are also some diaries, and ‘practical’ books too.
Persephone books come in a gray cover, and there are 98 of them. I think it’s such a cute idea, to get these books with their matching jackets and know that they were written long ago by women, who knew they weren’t going to be best-sellers (mainly because best-sellers didn’t exist back then!), and now here they are in a little shop in London, or being posted through your letter box. It’s a strange sense of community, or at least that’s how it made me feel.
All books are £12, or £30 for three. They each come with a nice little bookmark too, so if you’re a bookworm like me, I would recommend giving it a go! You feel like you’ve bought yourself a present, and mine arrived next day! Which is good, because I’m really impatient. I’m pretty sure they ship worldwide.
